One of the first games we shared here on Dog Trainer Games was Red Light, Green Light and how you could use the game to teach impulse control.
Recently, Marisha Maier sent in an alternative way to use the game—this one to work on loose leash walking with an automatic sit.
How to Play Red Light Green Light for Nice Walking
Either the instructor or a helper stands at the front of the class and calls out red light/green light.
The dogs practice heel/loose leash on green light while person calling them out faces away from them. The dogs and their owners are only allowed to move if the dog is waking properly.
Then, when the caller says red light, they turn around. The dogs and owners stop and the owners have their dog sit.
The last dog to sit goes back to start; the first dog to reach the caller gets a prize.
Marisha says she usually gives away a fun collar or leash—something related to walking.
